Aligning battens and substructures with Montagefix

Pack without removing the screw: here is how to bring battens, substructures and brackets into one plane quickly with Montagefix.

Slotted Montagefix packing shims in various colours

What is Montagefix?

Montagefix are slotted packing shims. The shim is simply slid onto the screw, nail or wall plug via the slot, without having to remove the fixing first. The screw is then tightened and the shim is held firmly. This allows a substructure to be aligned point by point while it is already loosely fixed.

Montagefix is impact-resistant, can be nailed and cut to size, and remains dimensionally stable even with changing temperatures and humidity.

Aligning battens: step by step

  1. Fix the batten loosely: Insert the screws but do not tighten them yet, so that there is room for the shims behind the batten.
  2. Set the line: Stretch a string line or use a laser or straightedge to determine the target plane.
  3. Fit Montagefix: At each fixing point, slide the right thickness onto the screw via the slot. For larger gaps, combine several shims.
  4. Tighten and check: Tighten the screws and check the plane. Add a thin shim if necessary.

Typical applications

  • Façade construction: Bring battens and counter battens for rainscreen façades into one plane.
  • Interior fit-out and drywall: Align substructures for wall and ceiling linings.
  • Window construction: Level frames and junctions at the fixing points.
  • Heating and plumbing: Bring brackets and holders on uneven walls plumb.
