Why kitchens and furniture need to be aligned
Hardly any floor or wall is perfectly flat. If a carcass is not level, doors and drawers stick, gaps open up and worktops do not sit properly. That is why kitchens, built-in cupboards and furniture are brought plumb and level during installation and packed at the support points.
The furniture wedge 99 × 20 × 8 mm
The brown GV furniture wedge is slim and discreet. It fits under carcasses, plinths and frames without sticking out. Being made of plastic, it does not swell if water gets onto the kitchen floor, and it keeps its shape permanently. The furniture wedge is available in cartons of 1,000 pcs and as a self-service retail bag for dealers.
Stepless levelling with a wedge pair
A single wedge gives a sloping surface. Push two identical wedges against each other and you get a horizontal support whose height can be adjusted steplessly. This is ideal for aligning furniture to the millimetre.
Packing shims for flat supports
Where a load needs to be distributed over an area, for example under plinths, carcass bases or worktop substructures, thin packing shims are ideal. The small 60 × 40 mm format is available in eight thicknesses from 1.5 to 20 mm. The colour indicates the thickness, so you can pick the right shim without measuring. For long supports, the 160 × 50 or 180 × 60 mm formats are suitable.
How to proceed
- Find the highest point: Use a spirit level or laser to find the highest point of the floor. Alignment starts from there.
- Align the carcasses: Roughly set the kitchen's adjustable feet, then fine-tune with wedges or packing shims.
- Connect the units: Only connect the carcasses once they are all level and in line.
- Check the worktop: Before fixing, check how the worktop sits on its supports and pack out any gaps.
Frequently asked questions
Which wedges are suitable for furniture and kitchens?
The slim furniture wedge 99 × 20 × 8 mm is made for this. For larger gaps, the wedges 64 × 28 × 9 mm or 76 × 38 × 10 mm are also suitable.
Why plastic instead of timber?
Plastic wedges and shims do not swell when wet, do not rot and do not splinter. This is a particular advantage in kitchens and bathrooms.
How do I get a horizontal support with wedges?
Push two identical wedges against each other. The height can be adjusted steplessly by sliding them.
Are small quantities available for installers?
Yes. The furniture wedges are also available in self-service retail bags, and wedges and packing shims also come mixed in assortment bags.
